Seward Count could seem to find so much as the rim in the first half, never being able to take the lead after a 4-0 start to fall to Labette 54-49 in the Region VI championship game.
The Lady Cardinals held Rachel Barnes to only 13 points, 28 less than the sophomore had racked up against Cowley. Satoria Bell led the way for Labette, scoring 19 on 7-of-14 shooting from the field.
Barnes was not the only Seward player unable to find the bottom of the net, as the Lady Saints shot up five air balls in a five-minute span. Megan Lassley and Kendra Spresser both looked to be tense in their field-goal attempts.
The fatal loss is only the third of the season for the Saints, two of which coming at the hands of Labette. The Lady Cardinals will represent Region VI in the national tournament to be held in Salina Mar. 16-20. Mar 8, 2010, 20:18
Lady Redskins fight hard but fall to Andover Central
Liberal pulled out all the stops to try and topple undefeated No. 1 Andover Central in the Sub-state finals, but foul trouble hampered the Lady Redskins late leading to a 46-33 loss Saturday night in Andover.
Sophomore Justice Norah battled toe to toe with Oklahoma State-signee Tiffany Bias, outscoring the senior 17 to 16 in the loss. Norah, Megan Campbell and Malyssa Williams all fouled out in the fourth quarter, allowing Central to pull away late.
Liberal went into the second quarter with an 11-11 tie, and were down only seven late in the game against a team almost unanimously picked to win the state title.

Liberal's season is over following a first-round 64-52 loss to Andover Wednesday night in the 'Big House.'
The Redskins were down only two after the first quarter, but Andover's Thomas Jobe was on fire from the outside, hitting two threes to put the Trojans up 35-26 at the half.

Bryan Morris brought Liberal as close as they would come in the second half, completing a three-point play to bring the Redskins within six. Unfortunately for Drew Gruver's squad, Andover's Alex Tyler took over from there, hitting a three and sliding behind the Liberal defense for two easy lay ups to put the Trojans back up to an 11 point lead after three.
Liberal was forced to foul throughout the final three minutes of the fourth, and Jobe was up to the test. Jobe was 15-of-17 from the line, including 11-of-13 in the fourth quarter to finish with a game-high 28 points. Jade Cathey led the way for Liberal with 17.
