Daryl Darst, 59, Liberal, died Saturday, Jan. 30,
at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal. He was born June 6, 1950, at Grand Island, Neb., the son of 
Gordon H. and Helen M. Dies Darst. He was employed at Mosaic for many years.

Graveside services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Liberal 
Cemetery with Pastor Jeremy Durig presiding. Miller Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Jo Rita Childers

Jo Rita Childers, 71, Coldwater, Kan., died Thursday, Feb. 4, at Comanche County Hospital, Coldwater, Kan. She was born on June 1, 1938, at Lubbock, Texas, the daughter of James and Oma Balentine.

A private memorial service will be held at a later time.

    Mae Hiller was born on May 20, 1915, at home on the family farm in Beaver County, Okla., near a little town named Floris, which is located nine miles west of Forgan, Okla.

Mae passed away Friday evening, Feb. 5, at the Dunaway Manor.  Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at the Henson-Novak Funeral Chapel, 501 NW Fifth St., Guymon, Okla., with Rev. Pat Hoban officiating.  Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.

Bernard E. Weller

Bernard E. Weller, 88, died early Friday morning, Feb. 5, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kan. He was born July 21, 1921, in rural Meade County, Kan, the son of Howard Eugene and Grace (Merkel) Weller. 

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Montezuma, Kan., with the Rev. Jerry Odle presiding.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, Kan.  Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade, Kan. Kevin Joseph Seaman

Kevin Jospeh Seaman, 60, Hugoton, died early Feb. 5 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston. The son of AZ and Margaret (Corcoran) Seaman, he was born Sept. 3, 1949, at Wichita. Raised in Augusta, Kan., Kevin graduated from Emporia State University in 1971 and earned his master's degree in 1977.

A vigil rosary will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Helen Catholic Church, Hugoton. The Rev. Pascal Klein and the Rev. Brandon Farrar will concelebrate his funeral Mass also at St. Helen Catholic Church, Hugoton, at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton.

Angelia "Angie" Janine Dale

Angelia "Angie" Janine Dale, 31, Bucklin, Kan., and longtime Hugoton resident, died Friday, Feb. 5, as a result of an automobile accident in Ford County, Kan.
The daughter of Steven Lynn and Carla S. (Ashlock) Showers, she was born June 27, 1978, at Ulysses, Kan.

August Leroy (Gus) Schott, 86, longtime Guymon, Okla., resident, passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Hansford Hospital, Spearman, Texas. The son of August A. Schott and Ada Margaret (Krus), he was born Feb. 25, 1923, in Manchester, Okla.

Funeral services with military rites will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Michael Burkett and the Rev. Barry Bennett officiating.  Burial will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery under the care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon, Okla.

Margarita Ordonez

Margarita Ordonez, 80, Hugoton, died early Tuesday morning, Feb. 2, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home, Hugoton, where she was a resident. The daughter of Roman and Atocha (Bustillos) Andatoza, she was born Feb. 27, 1929, at Chihuahua, Mexico.

A vigil service will be 7 p.m. Friday at St. Helen Catholic Church, Hugoton.

Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Helen Catholic Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Pascal Klein presiding. Burial will be in the Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton. Paul's Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jewell O. Horst

Jewell O. Horst, 92, Hugoton, died Monday, Feb. 1,
 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home, Hugoton. She was born May 27, 1917, at Yardelle, Ark., the daughter of
 Hance and Kathryn Wheeler Hill. She graduated from Blackwell, Okla.,
in 1934.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at the 
Hugoton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harry Cross presiding. Interment will be in the Hugoton Cemetery.

Friends may call the Miller  Mortuary, Liberal, to sign the register, or the Hugoton United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until service time Friday. In lieu of flowers,  memorials  may be gifted to Hugoton United

Kenneth Joe Atkins

Funeral services for Kenneth Joe Atkins, 74, of Claremore, Okla., will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Claremore, Okla.  Burial will follow at the Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory.  Visitation is 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family greeting friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Kenneth died Sunday, Jan. 31, in Tulsa, Okla., at the age of 74.

Cecil W. Baker

Cecil W. Baker, 85, Sublette, Kan., and former longtime Garden City resident, died early Monday, Feb. 1, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, Kan., where he had been a resident. The son of John and Vernie (McClaughlin) Baker, he was born May 4, 1924, in Phillips County, Kan.

Phyllis Kay Heilman, 66, Hugoton, died early Monday morning, Feb. 1, at her home in Hugoton. The daughter of John and Eleanor (Jasper) Young, she was born Oct. 18, 1943, at Gridley, Kan.

Max Stanley Farris, 69, died Saturday, Jan. 30, at Liberal Good Samaritan Center, Liberal.
He was born March 16, 1940, at Dacoma, Okla., the son of Wayne Hamilton and Margie Magdalene Marie (Eckels) Farris.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Bagwell presiding.  Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery, Liberal.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

Lyle Gortner Sturdy

Lyle Gortner Sturdy, 89, Hugoton, died early Saturday morning, Jan. 30, at his home in Hugoton. The son of Oscar and Ilah (Gortner) Sturdy, he was born Dec. 20, 1920, at Mt. Hope, Kan.

Martin Russell Johns

Martin Russell Johns, 88, Richfield, Kan., died Saturday, Jan. 30, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit, Johnson City, Kan. The son of Jesse Julius and Edna Pearl (Russell) Johns, he was born Aug. 26, 1921, near Geneva, Neb.

Daisy F. Evans

Daisy F. Evans, 93, died early Friday, Jan. 29, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kan.

She was born April 25, 1916, at Beaver, Okla., the daughter of Bismark and Nancy (Farley) Kelly.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary Chapel, Meade, with Pastor Andrew Evans presiding.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday.  Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery, Plains, Kan. Velda I. Blinn

Velda I. Blinn, 94, died Wednesday, Jan. 27 at Liberal Springs.
She was born Nov. 2, 1915, at Medicine Lodge, Kan., the daughter of Edward and Merna (Piehler) Oyler. 

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, with Rev. David Bagwell presiding.  Burial followed at Restlawn Cemetery.

William Carroll "Bill" Stafford

William Carroll "Bill" Stafford, Grand Prairie, Texas, died on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Universal Hospice Care Facility in Fort Worth, Texas.

Born to Louis Carroll and Delores (Thayer) Stafford on March 22, 1940 in Russell, Kan. He attended school in Gorham, Kan.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Southwest Miracles, P.O. Box 1876, Liberal, KS, 67901.

Lula May Foxworthy

Lula May Foxworthy, 97, Ulysses, Kan., died Tuesday, Jan. 26, at The Legacy at Park View, Ulysses, where she had been a resident. The daughter of Alfred and Iola (Gabriel) Comer, she was born Feb. 14, 1912, at Excelsior, Mo.

A memorial has been established for the Country View Baptist Church, Ulysses. Memorials may be mailed to Grant County Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Ulysses, KS, 67880. Eugene L. "Gene" Graber 

Eugene L. "Gene" Graber, 86, Liberal, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal. He was born Nov. 18, 1923, in Liberal, the son of Jerry and Annie Stoll Graber. He graduated from Liberal High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon returning to Liberal, heworked with his father at Graber Service.

Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Randall presiding. Interment will be in the Liberal Cemetery with military honors.

George C. Fira

George C. Fira, age 31, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010 at Garden City. He was born Sept. 26, 1978, in Johnson, Kan., the son of Fidencio V. “Fred” and Mary (Correa) Fira. George attended school in Johnson, Kan., and liked working on the farm when he was growing up. He currently lived in Pratt, Kan., and was employed with a harvest crew.

Vigil service will be Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. and the memorial Mass will be Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Johnson, Kan., with Reverend Trong Binh Tran officiating. Velda I. Blinn, 94, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Liberal Springs, Liberal.

Othello Charles

Funeral services for Othello Charles aka O.C. Elfers, 95-year-old Logan resident, was Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Beaver, Okla. The Rev. David Glascock officiated. Interment was held in the Kiowa Cemetery under the direction of Mason Funeral Home of Shattuck, Okla.
O.C. Elfers was born on Jan. 8, 1915, in Beaver County, Okla., on the old homestead to Charles and Emma (Gessner) Elfers. He attended a country school at Sunset, Okla.

Frank S. Chaffin

Frank S. Chaffin, 88, of Stillwater, Okla., passed away on Friday, Jan. 22. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Pastor John Dickey officiated. Interment was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater, Okla. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Jan. 4, 1922, in Liberal. He attended Oklahoma A&M College. He was an engineer for General Electric Magnovox, as well as a machining inspector for Mercury Marine. He married Margaret Maxine Miller Chaffin in San Diego, Calif., June 10, 1945, for over 64 wonderful years.

Gabriel "Gabe" Alvarado

Gabriel "Gabe" Alvarado, 74, Sublette, died Saturday morning, Jan. 23, at Satanta Long Term Care Unit, Satanta, Kan.

The son of Gabriel Sr. and Feliciana (Gonsalez) Alvarado, he was born Aug. 10 1935, at Bishop, Texas. He and Simona Cruz were married at Brownfield, Texas. They moved from Brownfield, Texas, to the Sublette area in 1968.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Sinai Pentecostal Holiness Church, Sublette, with Rev. Rudy Alvarado presiding and burial in the Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette.

Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette, is in charge of the arrangements.

Rex Morgan

Rex Morgan, 71, died Friday, Jan. 22, at Morton County Hospital, Elkhart. He was born Jan. 14, 1939, in Elkhart, the son of H.C. “Code” and Elsie (Cridelbaugh) Morgan.
Rex, a lifelong resident of Elkhart, attended the Elkhart schools. He worked for the City of Elkhart until his retirement.

Graveside services were Monday at 11 a.m. at Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart, with Reverend Gary Murrell officiating. Friends were allowed to call Sunday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.

Lisa D. Williams

Lisa D. Williams,  41, Liberal, died Saturday, Jan. 23, at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.

She was born June 10, 1968, at Little Rock, Ark., the daughter of Earl and Lucille Homes Withers.
 
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday at the Bibleway Church of God in Christ, with Pastor Mary Washington presiding. Interment will be in the Liberal Cemetery.

Ivan L. Warran

Ivan L. Wharran, 82, Liberal, died Monday, Jan. 25, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.
He was born Sept. 19, 1927, at Readlyn, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Forrest E. and Eva J. Ford Wharran.

He came to Liberal in 1955, and was in sales at J. C. Penney, he later was produce, assistant and co-manager of both North & South Ideal Stores for many years. He owned and operated Wharran Landscaping from 1990 to present.

Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with Pastor John Teeter presiding. Interment will be in the Tyrone Cemetery, Tyrone, Okla.
 
John C. Rome

John C. Rome, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 23, at Wheatridge Park Care Center, Liberal. He was born Sep. 24, 1925, in Morland, Kan., the son of Nick and Pauline (Boxler) Rome.

John attended school in Graham County, Kan., until 1939 when the family moved to the rural Holcomb area, Kan., where he finished high school. After high school John farmed in Garden City until he enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean conflict.

Vigil service was 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Helen Catholic Church in Hugoton. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Helen Catholic Church with Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will follow at Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton, with military rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends were allowed to call on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or VFW Post No. 5391 in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S. Main St., Hugoton, KS, 67951.

Elsie Harp

Elsie Harp, 94, died Friday, Jan. 22, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born Dec. 5, 1915, at Plains, the daughter of D.K. and Augusta (Mac Kenroth) Baty.

Private graveside service will be held Monday at Liberal Cemetery with Rev. David Randall presiding. Visitation time will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

Gerado W. Caedo

Former Liberal resident Gerardo (Gerry) Caedo died on Jan. 6 with his family by his side in Henderson, Nev. A memorial service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Henderson, Nev. at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 followed by a reception.
