It was not a good road trip for the Liberal Bee Jays as they returned home following their last game against the league-leading Haysville Heat.
Liberal lost all three of their baseball games against the Wichita-area baseball team.
On Friday, the Bee Jays were defeated 14-1 by the power-hitting Haysville Heat. On Saturday starting with a 3-0 lead in the game, the score finished at 6-3, but still had Liberal on the losing end of the contest and still had the Heat hitting home runs.
On Sunday, the Bee Jays hoped to salvaged one game on the three-game road trip, but it was not to be as Liberal dropped the final contest with the carbon-copy score of the previous evening’s 6-3.
The four-game losing streak which started the previous Wednesday with a loss to Hays drops Liberal to fourth place in the Jayhawk League behind Haysville, Hays and Dodge City.
Bee Jays league record for the 2010 season stands at 3-4, three games back from the Haysville Heat. Overall this season Liberal is 7-4.
The Haysville team is new to the Jayhawk League this year moving from the Arizona resort town of Lake Havasu, Ariz. While in Arizona, the Heat were consistent powers not just in their league, but also in the National Baseball Congress. That expertise was exemplified by their play all three nights against the Bee Jays by consistent, solid baseball in the field with few errors and the ability to go long against Liberal.
The pitching of the Heat also seemed to stymie the Bee Jay batters when they faced the Haysville hurlers.
The Bee Jays returned to Brent Gould Field Tuesday evening against the league's last place El Dorado after the Times went to press. They will be facing El Dorado again tonight at 7 p.m. at Brent Gould Field.
