"I'm just hoping to bring a bit more knowledge about softball to Turpin," said Cori Carson who will be hosting the first-ever Turpin Softball Clinic Saturday.

Carson who played softball for Seward County Community College when she was younger said she hopes the first-time clinic will provide needed skills and information to young people who are somewhat unfamiliar with the sport.

"I grew up just outside Wichita and softball is big there and everybody plays it," Carson said. "and when I came down here (Turpin), I was surprised on the lack of familiarity with it. I found out they didn't know much. This camp might help with that. At least I hope it does."

That is why she said she has started the camp. Carson who now teaches at SCCC in the medical assistant's program said she intends to focus on the fundamentals of the sport so young people, especially children can become more proficient at the game.

"We will go over the basics of fielding, hitting and introductory pitching," Carson said.

The camp will take place from 9 a.m. to noon for ages 5 through 10 and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m the camp will be for ages 11 through 18.

"I would love this to be an annual thing," Carson said. "but right now I am just looking at this year."

Carson said the camp is aimed at the youth of Turpin, "but anybody from anywhere can come. I just saw the need here in Turpin and wanted to do something about it."

The camp will be held at the softball fields at the Turpin Schools. There will be a $15 fee. For more information about the softball camp call 580-539-1565 or email csw1221@ptsi.net
